Dr. Ping Liu (first-row,5th from left), in conjunction with the UC-San Diego (UCSD) Student Chapter of The Electrochemical Society (ECS) and Dept. of NanoEngineering, hosted Tom (first-row, 4th from left) for an invited graduate student seminar titled, “Understanding the Risk of Lithium-Ion Battery Thermal Runaway in Aerospace Applications“. Tom’s presentation focused on the fundamentals of lithium battery thermal runaway phenomena, scope-of-practice of aerospace-rated lithium-ion batteries, and selected case studies of lithium battery thermal runaway testing. Afterwards, Tom had the opportunity to chat with a number of NanoEngineering Dept. graduate students about their on-going research projects and career plans.
